January – Create Your Vision
Congratulations! You are now on your way to a very rewarding year and I hope my Creative Year Planner is going to help you get there!
In January 2008, all I wanted to do with my business was shut it. My one big customer stopped buying from me, I had very few other prospects on the horizon and in an attempt to streamline my business, found myself totally alone drowning in a sea of paperwork. I really struggled. As the year progressed, things started to get progressively worse. Attempts to dig myself out of my situation were proving futile.
Looking back, what I realised was that I didn’t know where I was taking my business (and my life for that matter). At the time it felt like I was rowing a boat in a storm. I wasn’t going anywhere and I was barely staying afloat. I had some support, from friends, family and others who came to be mentors and coaches, but what I needed to do to my business had to come from me.
It became very apparent that the first thing I needed to do was create a vision for myself. I didn’t enjoy what I was going through at the time, so I had to ask myself what did I want? It was then that I went through the process of setting out my vision of where I wanted to take my life and my business.
It has to start here, because without a vision, you have nothing to set goals towards, no clarity on how you want your business to run, who you want your customers to be, the best ways to market and communicate to them, what kind of support do you need? All of this will be covered over the coming 12 months.
In the downloadable sheet, I have laid out a simple start to that process. You need to answer questions about yourself and your business; What you want from life? How much money you want/need to make? How many hours you want to work? What are you good at? What do you need to get others to do for you? Once armed with the answers and they do require a little hard thinking, you will find it easier to answer the questions that follow.
I have also completed a sheet with my visions on this, to give you a better idea of how to approach it.
The biggest unknown to all of this is YOU! The biggest asset to this is also YOU!
Fill out the sheet, go online and list a couple of your visions for all to see. You’ll be amazed at what a little accountability can do.
A vision aired is a vision shared.
