Frequently Asked Questions

(FAQ)

Trade Accounts

Why do you only sell to trade buyers?

We want to focus on our strengths, sourcing the best stones, and leave jewellery designers and manufacturers to focus on theirs; designing, making and marketing fine jewellery. We have spent generations building trust in the industry, and do not wish to pursue our customers’ clients.

If you are not a trade buyer, we encourage you to check out our sister website, www.haruni.com

How do I apply for a trade account?

You can complete the registration form for a trade account here. We may need some time to verify your trade credentials, and may contact you for further information/proof of identity and/or trade registration. Once verified, you will receive an email with your login credentials.

May I share my trade account login credentials with someone else?

We limit accounts to members of the trade, to protect your interests as much as ours. Any suspicious activity identified on your account may regrettably result in your access being revoked.

Our Stones

What are Conflict Diamonds/Blood Diamonds, and how can I be sure you don't sell them?

Conflict diamonds, sometimes called blood diamonds, are diamonds sold by rebel and terrorist groups, most prevalent in central and West African nations. TheGemBank is a proud believer in the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS), and can guarantee that the company only deals with 100% conflict-free diamonds.

Will I receive a certificate with my gemstone?

All of our stones are certificated where indicated, either by a third party laboratory or graded in house by our experienced gemstone team.

All of our certified gemstones will arrive with their certificates in your packaging.

Do you have stones that don't appear online?

Yes. We are constantly getting in new stones although it takes a few days to photograph and upload them to our website.

Otherwise we have extensive sources, from which we can find what you are looking for if you can’t currently find it online.

I found a stone on your website that I like. Is it available?

In general all the stones that appear on the website with a price are available within one of our worldwide offices. Please feel free to ask us about any stone you see on our site so we may check on its availability. If it is not available, we may have a similar stone to offer you!

What does In House Grading mean?

In House grading refers to stones that have been graded by our in house team and are not accompanied by a recognised laboratory report.

There’s an option to request a certificate for these stones at an additional cost. Please contact us for more information.

Are your stones natural, or are they treated or enhanced in any way?

Most of the gemstones on the market today have gone through recognised, time-honoured treatments. Unless otherwise stated, all of the gemstones offered by The Gem Bank have received some treatment. Rubies, Sapphires and Emeralds that are certified as showing no signs of treatment are rare. The Gem Bank offers many Rubies, Sapphires and Emeralds that are certified as not treated. Most of the remainder of our gemstones have only received the minimum treatment to enhance their beauty and durability.

As you will see below, the Haruni family has been working in the jewellery business in the UK since 1951, but our roots in the business go further back than that.

The Haruni Business

In 1951, Elie Haruni together with his brothers Mat and Aaron started working out of London’s famous jewellery quarter in Hatton Garden. From humble beginnings and with a pioneering spirit, they travelled the world sourcing gemstones for fine jewellers. Their company EMDA International became a name synonymous with fine Sapphires, Rubies and Emeralds, servicing fine jewellers around the world. Since then we have learned what jewellers want, but more than that, what it takes to make fine jewellery. International Gemstones is still in the family’s London headquarters in Hatton Garden, and is able to supply and source gemstones for all our customers. By being at the heart of Hatton Garden, we are also able to make jewellery of the highest standard that London is famous for.

The Haruni Family

Our family has been involved in the gem business since 1951, pioneering in the field of gemstone supply out of London and the Far East. In 1985 we opened our Major Trading office to service the demands of the Swiss watch and jewellery market. We subsequently opened our office in Israel in 1995, keeping us at the heart of the diamond industry until today. The Gem Bank was created 2010 to support our online activities.

Our main focus has always been on service, sourcing and stocking fine gemstones and diamonds for our customers to call on when they need them. This enables the jeweller and watchmaker to keep their own inventory to a minimum, better manage their cash flow by only tying up capital in stock they are manufacturing, and focus on the creative and selling side of their business, knowing that their sourcing needs can be taken care of by us.
